BUTTE — A remarkable feat by a Butte resident who chased down a suspected hit and run driver on Thursday and restrained the suspect with zip ties until police arrived.

Butte police arrested Dylan Anderson after he reportedly crashed into a vehicle at Front and Maryland streets at about 8:15 p.m. and then left the scene.

Another driver followed Anderson to C Street, where police say Anderson tried to run away but was tackled by the citizen, who restrained Anderson's hands with zip ties.

Butte-Silver Bow County Sheriff Ed Lester said, "We'd rather you call us and let us chase the bad guys and make the arrest, but in this case it worked out and nobody was injured."

Anderson was booked into the county jail on the following charges:

61-8-302 CARELESS DRIVING, MISDEM
61-7-105 FAIL TO ID, SELF AND VEHICLE, MISDEM
45-5-201 ASSAULT, SIMPLE, MISDEM
61-8-401 DUI - (REFUSAL), MISDEM
61-7-108 IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION OF ACC, VIOL

The name of the person who apprehended Anderson has not been released.
