BUTTE — Law enforcement officers captured a man early Friday morning who had escaped from the Montana State Prison more than a month ago.

Preston Scott Tucker was arrested at about 12:30 a.m. in a residence in Powell County about seven miles from the prison where he had escaped the morning of May 30th, according to Powell County Undersheriff Kim Micu.

About 17 officials from the Powell County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana State Prison Special Response Team raided the home and captured Tucker without incident.

Micu said investigators were acting on a tip from a neighbor who noticed someone on the property who didn’t belong there.

The undersheriff said the home where Tucker was found is owned by someone who hasn’t been at the residence for the past five years. Tucker was the only one in the residence at the time of his arrest.

Tucker has felony convictions in Yellowstone County for stalking, burglary, and violation of an order of protection. He has been returned to the prison and charges are expected to be filed against him for the escape.

(MAY 30, 2020) The Montana Department of Corrections confirms it is looking for an escapee from the Work Re-entry Center at Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge.

According to a press release, prison staff discovered Preston Scott Tucker was not accounted for at the facility as of 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Department of Corrections initiated emergency procedures and notified law enforcement agencies in the area.

"The DOC considers any escapee dangerous and urges you to contact local law enforcement if you have any information regarding this offender," the press release said.

Tucker was last seen wearing blue jeans and white T-shirt. He is 5 feet, 11 inches with brown hair and blue eyes.

Tucker has felony convictions in Yellowstone County for stalking, burglary, and violation of an order of protection.
