BUTTE — Louis Caye of Butte has been charged with attempted deliberate homicide after he allegedly stabbed a man several times outside the Dublin Irish Pub just after 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Police say Caye was walking south on Montana Street when he started yelling at a group of men standing outside the bar. Caye allegedly attack a 28-year-old man and stabbed him four times.

Butte-Silver Bow County Undersheriff George Skuletich said, "He doesn't know him at all, they're not acquaintances or anything like that, the age difference is quite a bit, doesn't know why the male may have attacked him."

The victim at last report was being treated at St. James Healthcare in Butte and recovering from serious injuries.

Police said the attack appears to be completely random.

Skuletich said, "Most of our assaults and serious assaults are between people who know each other. There's not a whole lot of random assaults that go on."

Caye ran away from the scene, but officers were able to quickly find him in the area of Idaho and Silver streets thanks to eyewitnesses at the scene.

Skuletich noted, "Then there was also a male that followed him from the bar down the alley where we arrested him, so the witness statements have been really good for us."
