Voters in Lewis & Clark County will elect a new County Commissioner on Tuesday, November, 3rd.

2020 will be the first time voters will choose a County Commissioner without a party affiliation.

The 2019 Montana Legislature passed a bill that gave counties the choice to move to non-partisan elections for county seats.

Lewis & Clark County voters approved the switch the following July.

The two candidates running for the open seat are Mike Fasbender, a real estate investor who also restores and sells vehicles, and Tom Rolfe, who has worked for many years as an auto salesman. Rolfe previously served one term in the state legislature as a Republican.

The winner will replace Susan Good-Geise, who chose not to run for another term. Geise has served as a commissioner since 2013.

Helena voters will also elect a new Justice of the Peace in the 2020 election.

It will be the second Justice of the Peace for the county. In November 2018, the Lewis & Clark County Commission voted to create a second Justice of the Peace position, to help address a growing workload for the court. Mark Piskolich and David Rau were the only two candidates who officially filed for the position, so they both moved on to the general election after an uncontested primary.

County Commissioners added the position to address a growing workload for the court.
