MISSOULA — Fire managers report that the Bear Creek Fire burning southwest of Dillon has now burned approximately 10,700 acres and containment has reached 60%.
The fire has been burning in the Lemhi Pass Area about 30 miles east of Salmon, Idaho, since August 11.
Resources assigned to the fire include seven helicopters, six Type 2 IA crews, two Type 1 crews, 13 engines, and 419 personnel.
Fire managers report that Sunday's fire behavior saw single tree torching produced enough heat to generate a visible smoke column.
A few areas of the burnout bumped the fireline but crews were successful with locating and suppressing all hot spots.
Area, road, and trail closures are in effect. Lemhi Pass Road is closed from its junction with Montana Highway 324 to Lemhi Pass.
People are advised to refrain from entering the area/nearby road system due to heavy fire traffic. There are no official evacuation orders associated with the fire.
