Emergency crews fighting grass fire on northeast side of Great Falls

GREAT FALLS — Emergency crews are fighting a fire near the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Great Falls.

The fire was reported at about 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Great Falls Fire Rescue described it as an "active, fast moving grass fire on the edge of town, this one near the Interpretive Center off River Drive."

Drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible in order to let emergency personnel work safely and effectively.

There is no word yet on the cause or size of the fire; we will update you if we get more information.


(UPDATE) The fire contained by about 2:40 p.m. Firefighters say that it burned along roughly 500 feet of grass.

There were no injuries, and no buildings were damaged.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
