(GREAT FALLS) The Great Falls Rescue Mission is partnering with the Boy Scouts and collecting leftover Halloween candy.
Over the last couple of years this partnership has grown from what started as a small donation to now an overflowing amount of candy.
It’s something scout volunteer Brad Weaver says is no surprise because of what the program strives for.
“Service is part of the scouting program and we teach our youth to be involved in the community and be willing to help, whether they are asked or not,” Weaver said.
The Rescue Mission currently houses 77 children and the candy will be used for their youth programs, primarily in their after school sessions and youth group meetings.
The Rescue Mission’s Executive Director Jim Kizer says this partnership highlights the values of both organizations.
“I think about when I was in scouting, I think about the scout laws that says a scout is trustworthy, loyal, and so on. It says a scout is reverent. Just all the different principles that scouting has, it really equates to the things we do too,” Kizer said.
A box is placed at the Boy Scout Service Center located at 820 17th Avenue South.
Doors are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. If you know a scout, they can collect donations, too.
The Boy Scouts will be collecting candy until Friday, November 9th.
