The Montana Department of Transportation reports that blowing dust is causing reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions along several roads.
In addition to the earlier warning about road conditions along US Highway 87 between Great Falls and Fort Benton, MDT provided the following update at 1:10 pm on Tuesday:
- US 89: 5 to 7 miles east of Great Falls towards Belt: blowing dirt causing reduced visibility starting at 12:54 pm; turn on headlights, reduce speeds and use caution; reduced speeds of 0 to 35
- MT 80: 7 to 15 miles east of Fort Benton: blowing dirt causing reduced visibility starting at 01:05 pm; turn on headlights, reduce speeds and use caution; reduced speeds of 0 to 35
(1st REPORT, 11:56 am) Gusty winds are again creating hazardous driving conditions between Great Falls and Fort Benton.
The Montana Department of Transportation reports that there is blowing dust causing poor visibility along US Highway 87 between Great Falls and Fort Benton.
The area most affected is between mile markers 14 and 16, which is the two-mile stretch just south of the Cascade/Chouteau county line.
They recommend that drivers turn on their vehicle headlights and reduce speed.
Similar conditions on March 2nd and March 4th resulted in traffic delays and the closure of the road for several hours.
