Cause of fire west of Great Falls still not known

The cause of a structure fire on Wednesday evening west of Great Falls has not yet been determined.

There were no reported injuries to people, but the fate of several animals on the property is not yet known.

The fire was reported at 5:02 p.m. at 77 Wexford Lane, south of McIver Road.

Firefighters had it under control within half an hour, with mop-up operations continuing for several hours. A water tender from MT Air National Guard remains at the scene as of mid-day on Thursday, according to Ken Hanks, assistant fire chief for the Vaughn fire department.

The unoccupied mobile home had several additions that served as a barn/corral area for animals.

Responding agencies included fire departments from Vaughn, Sun Prairie, Manchester, Black Eagle, Gore Hill, Ulm Sun River, and MT Air National Guard, along with the Cascade County Sheriff's Office.
