GREAT FALLS — A Great Falls online community is asking for the public’s help after helping a blind and deaf dog find a safe place to sleep tonight.

The post to Great Falls Lost & Found Pets Facebook page early Tuesday stated that an older male brown lab had been found wandering around the Sunnyside area.

Shanley Day said she reunited the dog with its owner, only to witness it being physically abused. She again turned to the lost and found group for help. A page administrator confirmed that several others had also witnessed the event and reported the sighting.

Fellow members called the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office to intervene, but officers and page admins told residents their hands were tied without video evidence of the abuse, according to several of them.

Susan Bliler saw the post and decided to take matters into her own hands. She drove to the owner’s residence and offered $200 cash for Tank, and he’s now staying with her while they look for a new owner.

Susan posted an update on Wednesday evening: “This boy, Tank, just had a bath, got a new harness, ate a bowl of kibble, and is resting quietly in front of the fire. Ahwoooooo!”

Tank is scheduled for a vet checkup Thursday morning at 8 a.m. to address a number of health issues.

Anyone interested in donating to Tank’s medical expenses can call Best Friends Animal Hospital at 406-453-2200.

We have asked the Sheriff’s Office for more information about reporting animal abuse to authorities.
