GREAT FALLS — Brittany Hayes shared this video of a very young bear between Great Falls and Vaughn on Wednesday afternoon.
The bear was running along Vaughn South Frontage Road near Sun Prairie. At one point the bear stops near a telephone pole and seems to consider climbing up, but decides instead to keep running.
Brittany told KRTV: "My dad almost hit him and noticed that was in fact a bear and we ended up calling the sheriff; we tried to keep it from crossing the road so he didn't get hit." Brittany said that Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks was notified, too.
She also noted that she and her family were not trying to catch the bear - they were trying to prevent it from running into traffic on the road.
At this point, we do not know if the bear has been captured safely for relocation, or managed to escape freely into the wild.
We will update you if we find out.
