A power outage is affecting some people in Great Falls tonight.

NorthWestern Energy confirmed the outage at about 10:47 p.m.

According to the NorthWestern Energy website, the outage is affecting about 2,144 customers, and it is centered along Northwest Bypass in Great Falls.

Several people on the west side of town have posted about the outage on the KRTV Facebook page.

There is no word yet on whether the outage may have been triggered by lightning from a thunderstorm earlier in the evening; the power company has not yet stated what caused the outage.

Melissa Lynn posted on theKRTV Facebook page: "The power pole in our alley was on fire. Currently they are still working on it. Heard a chain saw about 10 minutes ago. I'm guessing that might have to do with it."

They expect power to be restored by 1 a.m. on Thursday.

UPDATE: Many people reported that power was restored by about 11:35 p.m.
