Spelling champ crowned in Cascade County

GREAT FALLS — The annual Cascade County Spelling Bee was held on Thursday.

Sixty-four students from 26 schools competed, in grades fourth through eighth: 15 elementary school from GFPS, 2 middle schools from GFPS, 3 parochial schools, and 6 outlying schools.

Here are the top three:

  • 1st place – Nora McKelvey, she is an 8th grader from Holy Spirit Catholic School
  • 2nd place – Connor Sturges, he is an 7th grader from Holy Spirit Catholic School
  • 3rd place – Conner Reisinger, he is a 7th grader from North Middle School

The winning word was: fratority. This word could be confused with fraternity.

It took 11 rounds to get down to 1st and 2nd place.

The winners will now advance to the Treasure State Spelling Bee which will take place on March 14th at MSU in Bozeman.
