GREAT FALLS — The Kitchen, the take-out restaurant at 1225 Central Avenue in Great Falls, has closed after more than 34 years.

Friday, March 13, was the last day of operations for The Kitchen.

Michael Payton, the owner, said to KRTV that the owner of the building told him on Monday that he had 30 days to vacate the property; Payton also said the owner gave the same directive recently to a hair salon in the same building.

The Kitchen provided several options every weekday, specializing in what many call "comfort food," such as roast beef, tuna casserole, baked ham, and soups.

Payton said The Kitchen opened in February 1986, and thanked the Great Falls community for its patronage and support over the decades. He said that at this point, he does not have any plans to re-open in a new location - but also said that you never know what the future holds.

UPDATE: Josh Shannon, the property owner, contacted KRTV to provide an update. He says that the owner of The Kitchen was not fulfilling the obligations of the lease agreement. Shannon also said that he had been receiving complaints from customers about several issues associated with The Kitchen, and that he had given both The Kitchen and the hair salon adequate notice of the decision.
