The Helena Toys for Tots Coordinator, Howard Mears, won the national Toys for Tots Coordinator of the year award.

Mears has been the coordinator for close to 10 years and mows lawns every year as part of a fundraising campaign to give toys to children in need every Christmas.

Mears beat over 800 units across the country to win this award. He will be recognized at a national Toys for Tots Board of Directors meeting later on this year in 2020.

Mears isn’t the first Helena coordinator to win this award. According to Mears, the two previous Helena coordinators have won the award as well. He says he is happy to continue the good work set by the previous coordinators.

“I had some big shoes to fill," says Mears. "I'll tell you that, this award is not mine alone. Without my leadership team, and without all the volunteers we have to support us, and without all the donors that give to us so generously. We would not be standing here having this conversation today."

Mears does mow lawns in return for a donation to Toys for Tots. Since our last story with him oin June 3rd, 2020, he has received many calls to mow lawns and now needs help. Mears said if you have a tractor and willing to volunteer your time for children in need, please give him a call.

Mears’ phone number is (406) 461-5302.

His email is hmears@mt.net.
