GREAT FALLS — A house was destroyed by a fire in the Highwood Mountains early Monday.

Rudi Birgenheier, the Highwood Fire Chief, told MTN News that the firefighters were paged to a house fire on a ranch at 3:33 a.m.

Chief Birgenheier said the house "fully involved" at the time of the page, and the home is a total loss with no walls standing by the time firefighters arrived.

The occupants of the home were awake and were able to escape.

There are no reports of serious injuries. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

No other information has been released at this point; we will update you if we get more details.

(UPDATE) Damon Alm says that his grandparents Arnold and Renee Kotthoff lived in the house. He has created a "meal train" site for people to provide assistance to the family, and asking that anyone who knows them to send a card. You can email Damon at alm.damon@gmail.com for the address. Click here if you would like to sign up for the meal train.
