A motorcyclist has died in a crash on Highway 212 north of Roberts, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jake Parker.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3 p.m. on Saturday at mile marker 83.

Parker said the southbound lane of Highway 212 was closed for a few hours.

The rider was heading south on Highway 212 when he saw other motorcycle riders approaching from the north, Parker said.

The rider waved at the other riders, lost control of the motorcycle, and crashed on the right side of the road, he said.

The rider died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, Parker said.

The Carbon County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation and will release the name of the victim once next of kin are notified, Parker said.

(UPDATE) The Carbon County Sheriff's Office identified the rider as Richard Calloway of Billings; he was 55 years old.
