GREAT FALLS — A ceremony was held at the Montana Veterans Memorial in Great Falls on Thursday to honor and celebrate military veterans - watch the video above.

Students at Loy Elementary School in Great Falls used their art skills to celebrate Veterans Day, decorating brown paper bags with patriotic art. The bags will be used for groceries at the commissary at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

The school also put up decorations, set up a POW table, is having students be pen pals with deployed service members, and is raising money for the Grace Home Veterans Center.

"Many of our staff and most of our students live on base and shop at the commissary, so we just saw it as a great way to partner and do something unique and different,” explained principal Yenta Jaques. "I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the bag designs come across my desk. I've taken a few pictures and posted them to Facebook."

Also on Thursday in celebration of Veterans Day, JROTC cadets at Great Falls High School conducted a ceremony. On Friday, students at Whittier Elementary School plan to visit with veterans at the VA center and give them thank-you cards.
