Investigation underway into the death of a Malmstrom airman

(UPDATE, JANUARY 16) We have learned that Trevino died by suicide. The investigation was due to several people in the surrounding area being questioned about the incident, but there was no criminal act associated with his death.



(1st REPORT, JANUARY 15) The 341st Missile Wing and Malmstrom Air Force Base are mourning the loss of an airman.

Base officials said in a news release on Wednesday that Staff Sgt. Manuel Trevino, Jr., was found dead at an off-base location by Cascade County Sheriff's deputies on Tuesday, January 14th.

SSgt Trevino was assigned to the 841st Missile Security Forces Squadron at Malmstrom.

The circumstances of his death are being investigated; no other details have been released at this point.

A Malmstrom official told KRTV that there will be a joint investigation with the Cascade County Sheriff's Office as the lead agency and Malmstrom’s Office of Special Investigations assisting.

“The Malmstrom family is a close-knit family and the loss of one of our own affects us all. A tragedy of this type is felt by each and every member,” said Colonel Jennifer Reeves, the commander of the 341st Missile Wing. “Our priority right now is providing the family members with the support and services they need to work through this difficult time.”
