GREAT FALLS — Military families are accustomed to being adaptable. It’s a skill that has come in handy this summer as national guard children’s programming has changed due to coronavirus. Changes started back in April when “Month of the Military Child” events went virtual. In May and June, Guard kids participated in virtual cooking classes, STEM events, babysitting courses, and more online with military children from other states.

Now, the Montana Army National Guard is working to provide “Camp in a Box,” combined with more virtual activities. Each week will have a different theme and boxes will contain activities for children to do on their own, with their family or virtually with others.

“There's so many fun things and it's been exciting to see different opportunities and different things we could do and get really creative and have to think outside the box,” explained Lead Child and Youth Coordinator for the Montana Army National Guard Dystech Coordinator Savanna Sill.

Registration isn’t open yet for those boxes, but Sill said they hope to have them in the mail by the end of July or early August. Along with the boxes, prerecorded videos and a couple of live virtual events will also be available. There will also be boxes available just for teens.
