MISSOULA — Witnesses have identified 33-year-old Christopher Newrider as the suspect. Police say that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Due to the cold temperatures, authorities think Newrider may be looking for warmth in a vehicle or structure and advise people who live on the north side of the Clark Fork River to secure their vehicle and lock their doors.

If you see Newrider, you're asked to call 911 immediately and to not approach him.

(1st REPORT) One person is dead and the search continues for a "person of interest" following a deadly shooting on Tuesday afternoon in Missoula.

Authorities have been searching in the area of a trail along the Clark Fork River. Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says law enforcement is continuing to search for a person of interest in connection with the death.

The University of Montana Police Department is asking that people stay away from the Kim Williams trail.

The person of interest is said to be a white man in his 30s, approximately 6 foot tall, 198 pounds, with shoulder-length dark hair and a goatee, and was wearing a dark jacket, jeans, and dark shoes, according to UMPD.
