GREAT FALLS — Two people that were reported to be missing in the Sluice Boxes area between Belt and Monarch have been found and are safe.

Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said that at about 7:30 a.m. on Friday, deputies took a report of two missing persons, a mother and her son. They were Michaela Olivo, 25 years old, and her seven-year old son Brayden Olivo.

They were believed to be headed to the area of the Sluice Boxes southeast of Belt on Thursday at around noon. The reporting family said that they believe they were traveling in a red 2008 Ford Edge.

At 11:15 a.m. on Friday, investigators from the Sheriff’s Office found both Michaela and Brayden safe at a friend’s residence in Monarch.

We received an unconfirmed report that the two had spent the night in a cabin, but their cell phone died, and they were unable to let family and friends know.

Sheriff Slaughter also confirmed to MTN News that his agency is investigating several reports of "suspicious persons" in the Sluice Boxes area over the last several days.

Sheriff Slaughter did not release any other information; we will update you if we get more details.
