The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook on Monday that a reported threat that caused Plentywood School to be closed on Monday has been determined to not be credible.
On November 11, at about 4 p.m., a call was made to the Sheriff’s Office concerning rumors of a possible threat of gun violence at Plentywood School.
Deputies investigated the report to include talking with several kids who had heard the rumor. None of the kids had heard the actual statement from the alleged source.
Deputies spoke to the alleged source of the comment and their family. Those statements were denied and the person does not have access to weapons.
The Sheriff’s Office concluded: “We do not believe there is a threat at this time. We treat all reports seriously and will investigate rumors if we think there may be a threat to public safety. We want to remind everyone to report safety concerns to the Sheriff’s Office immediately.”
Plentywood Schools posted on Facebook: “We will have school as scheduled for Tuesday, November. 13. There will be a 1/2 day of school ending at 11:36 with buses running at 11:45. Parent Teacher Conferences will be from 1-4 pm and 5-8 pm. Law Enforcement and the school have completed their investigations and the students of Plentywood Schools are safe to return to school. Please note there will be a School Board Meeting tonight, Monday at 5:30 pm. in the gym lobby. There will be a normal “hearing of the public” section where updates on this situation will be given.”
(SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11) Plentywood Public Schools have canceled classes on Monday, November 12 as the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office investigates rumors of a threat that may have been made towards the school.
According to Plentywood Schools’ Facebook page, an investigation by law enforcement and the school is currently underway.
Officials indicate the investigation is a precautionary measure and do not feel there is any imminent danger.
The school stated it is unknown whether a threat was truly made, however, they take the safety of their students seriously and are cooperating with law enforcement.
All school activities, including Junior High basketball practice, Speech and Drama practice, FFA competition, and the Veteran’s Assembly, are canceled.
