Poplar firefighters extinguish Thursday night structure fire

Firefighters in Poplar worked late into the night Thursday to put out a large structure fire.

According to the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters responded to a fire around 7:30 p.m. at what’s called the Jolly Swag.

The fire caused some road closures including a section of Highway 2.

Around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, the department posted the fire was out, but they were watching a few hot spots.

A Facebook update from early Friday morning states arsonists started a section of the apartments at the Jolly Swag on fire.

The post office next door was not damaged.

Northeast Montana Health Services EMS, Montana-Dakota Utilities, and the City of Poplar assisted the firefighters.
