SHELBY — Two firefighters were sent to the hospital for minor injuries and five were treated for heat exhaustion after a house caught fire Friday in Shelby.
According to a social media post from the Shelby Fire Department, the injuries firemen suffered responding to a structure fire on Friday were caused by a “backdraft” that took out windows and lifted the roof off the blazing residence. Wind reportedly reached around 20 miles per hour.
“The fire was safely extinguished,” Shelby Fire Department officials wrote on Facebook Sunday evening, “[w]ith the work efforts of Shelby and South Toole and North Toole county firefighters.”
The two firefighters hurt while responding to the incident were released the same evening from the hospital, according to the post. No major injuries were reported.
Officials with the Shelby Fire Department have asked that residents not press for more information regarding the incident in order to “protect those involved and the privacy of the home owners.” The Shelby fire chief noted it was a “very hard day.”
“We all went home safe to our famil[ies] after the fact,” officials wrote, “and that is the most important thing.”
So as everyone has heard I assmue, YES there was a house fire Friday and YES we did have to send 2 of our firefighters…
