LOLO — Authorities have released the name of the young boy who died in a Monday accident on US Highway 93.

Missoula County Sheriff and Coroner TJ McDermott says that 10-year-old Brecken S. Beard of Florence died in the multi-vehicle crash that happened between Missoula and Lolo.

"Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family during this very difficult time," the Sheriff's Office stated.

The Montana Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. near mile marker 87 in the "S" curves.

A Mazda traveling south lost control and entered the northbound lane where it struck the back of a van. The Mazda then rotated before it was hit by another vehicle in the northbound lane.

The driver of the Mazda was ejected and taken to St. Patrick Hospital with serious injuries.

Beard died at the scene, while two other children were not injured, according to the MHP.
