GREAT FALLS — Hundreds of families enjoyed meals on Thursday on the Blackfeet Reservation at the new High Hook parking lot.

The Blackfeet Food Distribution Program provides commodities to income-qualified tribal members living on the reservation or the border. Commodities are distributed once per month.

We talked with program director Roy Crawford Jr, and he tells us in a time of need there's only one thing he can think of to do: "In a time of need like this, I have always said that the best thing you can do to help a person out is put food on their table. That's what we are trying to do, here at the Blackfeet Food distribution it's just helping our people and put food on their table, and hopefully, that helps."

He also says Blackfeet people are in more danger due to the COVID-19 pandemic:"The Blackfeet tribe is staying the course because Native Americans, in general, have many underlying diseases, you know, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stuff like that. So it kind of sounds like this COVID, if it was in the community, it would probably spread rapidly."
