With the events in Washington, D.C. this week, a group in Billings came together as Americans around a common passion.

Classic car and truck enthusiasts from different political sides met on Wednesday night.

About 200 enjoyed the Patriots Freedom Cruise, that started and ended at Big Lots in the heights.

"Oh it was awesome," said Wes Nelson, who orgainzed the cruise. "All those American flags, I loved it. I'm a patriot. Before the cruise, we had a friend jump in the back of my truck and he started us out and we all sang the national anthem together. And then we went on a cruise. It was just pure Americana. It was awesome. Just friends getting together, you know, supporting the American way of life and going for a cruise because we can."

Nelson said it's important for Americans to unite around what they have in common with each other.

"We're going to have to get over our differences and we're going to have to bring it together," said Nelson. "And that's the only way it's going to happen. I don't think one man, one woman. I don't think anybody's going to do it that way. It's just going to be us. "

Nelson says this group has come together during COVID for other cruises.
