MISSOULA — While we're used to seeing the familiar sight of Montana Rail Link's familiar blue engines with their red logos across western Montana, the Missoula-based transporter added something a little different to their fleet this week, paying tribute to the men and women who have served their country.

The new Veteran's Locomotive, which was unveiled in a ceremony last week, is now being used in freight service on the MRL lines running from Billings to Sandpoint, Idaho.

The locomotive was vinyl-wrapped in Missoula and designed by Monica Cederberg of the Washington Companies. A second locomotive honoring essential workers for all their service during the pandemic will be unveiled shortly and put into service.

MRL said in a news release that in addition to the tribute locomotives, the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, in conjunction with Montana Rail Link, will make a $50,000 donation to Warriors and Quiet Waters, and a $50,000 donation to Montana No Kid Hungry.
