Weekend crash victims identified

GREAT FALLS — The two people who died in a two-vehicle crash in Cascade County on Saturday, August 1st, have been identified as Brent Hitchcock of Dutton, and Caleb Craig of Tuscon, Arizona.

Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter released the names on Tuesday morning, and said that Hitchcock was 55 years old, and that Craig was 26 years old.

It happened near mile marker 119 on Highway 200, several miles southwest of Simms. Trooper Wade Palen of the Montana Highway Patrol says the crash was reported at 2:49 a.m.

Palen said that the head-on crash killed both men; there were no passengers in either vehicle. According to Palen, both men were wearing seatbelts.

He said that the MHP is continuing to investigate whether alcohol and/or speed were factors.

NOTE: the original report from Sheriff Slaughter said that Hitchcock was 75 years old; Slaughter later confirmed that he was 55 years old.
