GREAT FALLS — The Prospects 2021 High School Business Plan & Pitch Competition is an online competition for young entrepreneurs in the state of Montana, and the deadline for submissions is nearing.

The virtual business competition is offering scholarships and cash prizes for high school students with new ideas and existing small businesses.

The Montana Chamber of Commerce opened the contest to high school students around the state back in November, and has secured more than $50,000 in prizes.

The competition is a collaborative initiative with Youth Entrepreneurs for developing a mentorship platform for connecting students with business and community leaders.

To enter, high school students must submit a two-minute video pitch and a business summary of no more than 1,000 words.

In an effort to encourage young entrepreneurs to submit their business ideas, the Great Falls Development Authority is offering a $1,000 cash prize. “It’s so important to start when kids are in junior high school, as well as in high school, said Brett Doney, CEO of the GFDA. “The best way to learn about a business is to get into it, create a business, start making it work, and learning from your mistakes."

The Montana Chamber of Commerce has selected a panel of volunteer judges to represent Montana’s business community, who will judge the students’ business ideas from February 15th to March 5th.

The deadline for these young entrepreneurs to submit their business ideas is next Friday, February 12th, and the winners of the competition will be announced on Friday, March 12th.

A virtual award show for the winners of the competition will take place in April.
