After 20 years of adventures with his life partner, Charles K. Hail of Helena, 71, began his new adventure alone November 13, 2019. A Celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Staggering Ox, 400 Euclid Avenue, Helena, MT.

Charlie was born in Celina, OH to Jean (Ferris) Hail and William Hail. He attended St. Mary’s Memorial High School, St. Mary’s, OH, Miami University, Oxford, OH and U of M School of Law, Missoula, MT.

Anyone that knew Charlie knows he lived his life to the very fullest and enjoyed every moment of every day of his life. He began his journey in Ohio, but the mountains called out to him and he never looked back.

Charlie had several careers, but the most fulfilling was an attorney. He worked for the Montana State Department of Labor and Industry and spent 21 years with the VA Montana at Ft. Harrison, MT. He gave so much of himself to Pro Bono work for Montana Legal Services all during his working years and into retirement. Many veterans, and folks needing a family law attorney are better off today because of Charlie.

Charlie served two terms on the Helena School Board and was appointed Chairman. He was a big brother for the Big Brothers and Sisters. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Kay McKenna Youth Foundation for the past 15 years, serving as President, Vice President and Secretary. Helping children was his passion.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Vicki, his beloved son Travis (Jami), stepdaughter, Celena Peterson-Wolfe WV, his stepson, Kris Peterson WI; 7 grandchildren; his younger brother, Mike; niece, Alison and family and nephew, Ian GA,;his youngest brother, Bill (Bernice); nephew, Matt and family and Niece, Elizabeth OH; brother-in-law, Lonnie Oakland (CJ); nephew, Hank and his family, Great Falls, MT; his mother-in-law, Velma Oakland, Great Falls, MT; several cousins and families in OH and hundreds of friends. He never met a single person who didn’t soon call him friend.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Jean; stepfather, Maurice and father, Bill, OH.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Kay McKenna Youth Foundation, P.O. Box 1260, Helena, MT 59624 or to CASA.
