Bill was born on June 25, 1935, in Great Falls to Michael and Anna Yurek Halko. He attended Red Butte School, Stockett Grade School, and later, Centerville High School. He served four years in the Army, and spent a good portion of that time in Okinawa on electrical generators as an engineer specialist.
