United After Duty was in Helena on November 21 to give away Thanksgiving dinners to veterans and their families.
United After Duty is a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans transition from military life to civilian life. They saw a need with holiday meals during the pandemic. The organization decided to use COVID-19 relief funds to purchase Thanksgiving meals for over 30 veteran families.
About 15 of those meals were donated to vets in Helena. The president of the organizations said it’s a heart-warming feeling to be able to give.
“It's really dear to my heart because, I know that if I was struggling, I would really like for someone to do something like this for me and to be able to help my family,” said Jarred Hickethier, United After Duty President. “You know, being able to get out there and help other people, that's the best feeling in the world right there."
Each bag also came with domestic violence outreach cards with information for help. United After Duty will now prepare to give toys for veterans and their families this Christmas. To learn more about United After Duty, click here.
