If you’re a pickle fan, you’ve probably had a good time exploring all the new ways to enjoy one of your favorite foods. Maybe you’ve enjoyed a loaf of dill pickle bread or even some pickle-flavored ice cream.

But, if you’re looking for something new to try that stays in your flavor wheelhouse, how about skipping the classic cucumbers and going for pickled avocadoes instead? This combo brings together some amazing taste and texture for a snack you didn’t realize you needed to have in your life.

When you stop and think about it, bringing together the pucker power of pickles and the creamy goodness of the avocado checks off a lot of boxes on a foodie’s bingo card. They’re sure to bring a welcome zing to anything, but when it comes to avocado toast, we’re thinking avocado pickles are going to be downright revolutionary. Just look at this snack Instagram foodies @foodandbeerbellies showed off: incredible-looking avocado pickles served with a sweet potato hummus on toast. Yum!

Of course, avocados have already been in the spotlight for those following a healthier eating plan. Avocados have many nutritious benefits, from healthy monosaturated fats and fiber to vitamin K, just to name a few. Whether you follow a specific diet, such as vegetarian or keto, or just love the blend of great taste and peak nutrition, finding ways to amp up the avocado is always a good bet.

And fortunately, making avocado pickles is not an all-day process. Delish has a recipe that looks simple and quick. Simply gather together traditional pickling ingredients such as vinegar, salt, sugar, garlic, cilantro, dill and water to make the brining liquid that transforms the avocados into the perfect pickled snack.

The key to successfully pickling avocados is choosing slightly underripe fruit. If the fruit is too ripe, it will be too soft to pickle and they won’t slice right.

If it’s too ripe for pickling, though, you just have a good excuse to make guacamole or blend up an avocado margarita!

As California Avocados notes, this fruit is notoriously prickly about browning quickly after you slice it open, but there are a lot of ways to preserve avocados for a few days. Pickling them is just one great option for making sure a cut avocado stays green.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to pickle some avocados?
