GREAT FALLS — Amber Marie Burnette has been charged after she allegedly punched a detention officer in the Cascade County jail.
Court documents state that the officer ("Jane Doe") had been asked to assist in removing earrings from Burnette, after Burnette refused to remove them, saying that officers would have to "cut them out."
As the officer was trying to remove an earring, Burnette stood up and hit her in the jaw with her closed fist. The incident was captured on video, which court documents say clearly show Burnette punching the officer.
Court documents state that Burnette had recently been convicted on 10 counts of assault on a minor and perjury, and was taken into custody at the jail.
However, she had recently been released from jail due to a court order, because because her sentencing hearing had to be continued (delayed) from November 14th.
The charging documents allege that within the last 72 hours, Burnette had broken into two homes, and had been charged with disorderly conduct and theft of services after refusing to pay a cab driver and becoming combative.
The court documents conclude: "Her conduct is escalating, and culminated in her assaulting a female detention officer... The Defendant is a danger to the community."
Prosecutors requested that bond for Burnette on the charge of assault on a peace officer be set at $50,000.
