A homicide investigation is underway in the Flathead area, and the suspect has been shot and killed.
Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino says 911 received a call that a man shot a woman west of Kalispell on Tuesday.
Officers started looking for the suspect, found him, and a chase ensued, leading into Woods Bay in Lake County on the east side of Flathead Lake.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office says that the suspect’s vehicle was stopped and a shooting occurred between the suspect and Flathead County deputies and Montana Highway Patrol troopers.
The officers were not injured.
The suspect, a 58-year-old man, was killed; his name has not yet been released. The Flathead County Sheriff's Office says that there is no longer any threat to the public.
The Sheriff's Office says that Highway 35 is closed at Woods Bay as they continue investigating, and advise drivers to find an alternate route.
There is no word yet on the identity of the woman who was reportedly shot.
