BUTTE — Butte police have charged a teenager in connection with the vandalism to the amphitheater at the veterans memorial in Butte.

Butte Sheriff Ed Lester said a 14-year-old boy admitted to spray-painting graffiti on the amphitheater at Stodden Park on the morning of January 26.

The graffiti included obscenities and a racial slur.

The juvenile faces a felony charge of criminal mischief because the vandalism to the memorial caused more than $1,500 in damage.

The tip leading to the identity of the teen came from a citizen, Sheriff Lester said.

The name of the teen has not been released. There is no word at this point on whether the female seen in surveillance has been identified or charged.



(JANUARY 29) Butte CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible for spraying graffiti on the Veterans Memorial at Stodden Park.

Law enforcement released still shots taken from security video at the park which shows two people, a male and female, inside the amphitheater Tuesday morning between 10 a.m. and noon. The couple is accused of spray painting obscenities and a racial slur on the walls of the amphitheater.
