The Cascade County Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBOA) has again postponed a decision on a special-use permit (SUP) submitted for a proposed cheese processing facility east of Great Falls.

The ZBOA decided to table a decision regarding Big Sky Cheese, LLC during its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

The facility would be constructed on property owned by Madison Food Park, the corporation that proposed building an agri-business commercial food park east/southeast of Great Falls in 2017, totaling about 3,108 acres.

Members first voted to table the SUP decision during a June 27th meeting until they received more information from the applicant regarding water quality and quantity, and air quality.

On July 11, the applicant, Big Sky Cheese, provided the requested information, which can be found here.

During Monday’s meeting, ZBOA Chairman said staff recommended tabling the decision so the public can comment on the new information.

The board plans to hold another public hearing at a larger venue. The date has not been set.

The application and supplementary materials are on file in the Planning Department’s office. You can also read public documents concerning Big Sky Cheese online here.

Written comments regarding the additional requested information will be accepted until 5 p.m. on July 26, 2019. Written comments regarding the additional information can be mailed to the Planning office at 121 4th St N, Suite 2 H/I, Great Falls, MT 59401, or by email at planningcomments@cascadecountymt.gov.
