GREAT FALLS — As we're all probably much more reliant on the internet now thanks to the pandemic, there's an opportunity in Great Falls to learn more about cybersecurity.

Vision Net and the Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Facebook Live event on October 21 to answer questions about online safety.

One question the company had already received Tuesday was how to know when you're being attacked - something that happened last month, when Great Falls Public Schools' network was hit with a ransomware attack.

According to Vision Net:

  • Cyber Attacks Increased by 30% between July and August 2020.
  • 43% of cyberattacks are aimed at small businesses, but only 14% are prepared to defend themselves.
  • Cyber Attacks cost businesses of all sizes $200,000 on average.
  • More than half of all small businesses suffered a breach within the last year.

"We see hundreds of thousands of threats a month across our client base, so it's certainly increasing. It's something that, unfortunately, everybody should be mindful of,” said Roy Alexander, Vision Net Business Development Manager.
