GREAT FALLS — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on the west side of Great Falls on Monday.

The crash was reported to the Montana Highway Patrol at 7:41 pm on Monday.

It happened along Vaughn Road between Stuckey Road and I-15; authorities blocked Northwest Bypass at Stuckey Road/Watson Coulee Road so emergency crews could work safely.

Great Falls Fire Rescue posted on Facebook that it is a "significant vehicle accident."

According to a Monana Highway Patrol trooper who responded to the crash, two vehicles were involved in the head-on collision in the northbound lane when one vehicle crossed into the opposite lane.

One man was flown via Mercy Flight to Benefis Health System with a leg injury; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman in the other vehicle was taken via ambulance to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

There is no word at this point on whether any citations have been issued. The trooper did not indicate that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

KRTV received one unconfirmed report that the crash may have been caused by a driver swerving to avoid hitting a deer.
