MISSOULA — A Missoula police officer was involved in a shooting on the city's north side on Wednesday morning.

The Missoula Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance at the Hollywood Trailer Court at North Russell and Cooley streets at around 10:30 a.m.

Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh said in a media briefing that the man was uncooperative and officers learned he had a firearm. The officers engaged in lengthy dialogue with the man and ordered him several times to drop his weapon. Welsh said that at some point, shots were fired and the man was injured.

Gary Galland posted on Facebook: "This is just 2 or 3 trailers down from me. Wife and I heard 7 shots fired in about a 3 second span."

Kayla Shatto posted on Facebook: "I watched everything out my window...he had a gun and wouldn’t put it down!! They didn’t want to shoot but he gave them no choice and it was terrifying for the people who live here!"

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to a Missoula hospital; the extent and severity of his injuries has not been released.

Welsh said no officers were injured in the exchange.
