MTN viewer Mark Higgins sent in a remarkable time lapse video taken of a storm just north of Roundup on Thursday night. This included two tornadoes that spotters witnessed touch down.

The storm dropped as much as an inch and a half of rain in some areas near Fort Peck in just a matter of minutes.

Thursday’s storms caused damage across the state — including snapped tree limbs, smashed crops, and flash flooding.

On Friday, a team from the National Weather Service assessed some of the damage in north-central Montana.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issues Severe Weather Warnings by looking at radar, but they also heavily rely on reports of hail and wind gusts from people who live in the affected areas.

Many of Thursday’s storms happened in rural areas, making it hard to confirm damage done.

“The insurance companies are getting a look if there are claims to see if there was hail or wind or tornado damage, of course,” Ick Langlieb, NWS meteorologist, told MTN. “Folks issuing the warnings, we’d like to know how we are doing.”

There were two confirmed tornadoes by NWS in the state of Montana on Thursday.
