GREAT FALLS — The Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office says it has received several reports recently of people passing or attempting to pass fake $100 bills.

The Sheriff's Office says that before accepting any large bills, you should examine them closely. Most of the bogus bills contain obvious clues they're not authentic, such as Chinese characters or phrases indicating that they are movie props.

If you discover you've received fake money, you should notify your local law enforcement agency.

You can also contact the U.S. Secret Service field office in Spokane, Washington, at 509-353-2532.

The Sheriff's Office says that anyone who uses fake or counterfeit money is subject to state, tribal, or federal prosecution.
