Fire tears through Dam Bar northeast of Helena

On Saturday evening the fire had broken through the a portion of the upper walls and flames could be seen. The building has sustained significant damage.

Amanda Swisher has been a customer of the bar for eight years; she said, “Seeing the bar burn down actually brings quite a bit of feeling of loss to my family and I.”

Swisher said her family would retreat to the bar for cold drinks and food after a long day out on Canyon Ferry: “Usually Saturday or Sunday nights we meet here and get together and discuss the weekend and all the fun we've had.”

"This is a huge loss for this community this place has been popular for 30 plus years,” said Swisher. “My condolences to (owners) Nancy and her husband and my heart goes out to all the employees that lost their job today,”

At this time it is unclear what started the fire, and there have been no reports of any injuries related to the fire.

(FIRST REPORT, 5:16 pm) A popular bar on the north end of Canyon Ferry Lake caught fire Saturday afternoon.

The Dam Bar is located on Cave Gulch Road across from Kim's Marina on Cave Bay.

Smoke can be seen pouring from the roof of the bar.

In video shared with MTN, firefighters on the scene could be seen using axes or other tools trying to gain access to what appears to be an attic area above the bar's front door.

MTN has a reporter headed to the area and will updated you when we know more.
