FORT BENTON — The Wake Cup Coffee House Cafe & Bakery in Fort Benton is brewing up compassion in the midst of chaos.
Jamie Carrier, one of the owners, says a friend's recent donation sparked the creation of a coffee fund for healthcare workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The shop has a 'pay it forward' fund for those who could use a helping hand, and employees are also donating all their tips to fellow workers without a job right now.
Carrier says Wake Up Coffee House recently had to lay off seven employees: "My husband included, just because there aren't enough hours. And the three of them who are working every day are putting all of their tips toward their coworkers.”
But she says she is overjoyed to see friends and staff finding ways to help: “It's been awesome to see how people are already stepping up like that and wanting to take care of those who are working and don't have an option of just staying home," she said.
The business is currently only open for take-out and delivery. Their temporary hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Delivery orders must be placed by 11 a.m. for lunch and 4 p.m. for dinner. Click here to visit their Facebook page, or here to visit the website.
