BOZEMAN — A man driving a tractor on US-89 died in a collision with another vehicle on Friday afternoon near Emigrant, according to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP).

MHP reports the driver of the tractor was a 39-year-old Livingston man traveling with an infant less than a year old, secured in a car seat. The car seat was not strapped in to the tractor, according to MHP.

At around 2 p.m. on Friday, two men in a construction vehicle also traveling north attempted to pass the tractor near mile marker 38.5. The tractor began turning left as the truck attempted to pass; the two vehicles collided, throwing the driver of the tractor and the infant.

The man died at the scene; the infant survived with injuries, but the nature and severity of the injuries has not been released.

The driver of the construction vehicle, a 30-year-old Utah man, was taken to Livingston with injuries, as was the passenger, a 25-year-old Helena man. Both were wearing seatbelts, MHP said.

MHP said road conditions were bare and dry. Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash.

The name of the victim has not yet been released; we will update you if we get more information.
