MISSOULA — The young woman who died in a crash east of Missoula earlier this week has been identified as Rowan Hopkins-Doherty.

The Missoula County Coroner released her name on Friday; Hopkins-Doherty, 19 years old, was from Missoula.

Hopkins-Doherty died after the Ford Bronco she was driving went off Interstate 90 near Turah, struck a tree, and caught fire on Wednesday night.

The Montana Highway Patrol says she was driving west on Interstate 90 at around 5:22 p.m. when her vehicle went off the right side of the road and into the area between the on-ramp and westbound lane.

MHP says the vehicle, a Ford Bronco, then went airborne over the on-ramp, landed, and hit a tree near Turah; the vehicle then caught fire.

Hopkins-Doherty died at the scene.

MHP says speed is suspected as a factor in the crash, and is continuing to investigate.
