In another edition of KRTV’s effort to highlight News Literacy Week this week, MTN’s Colter Anstaett provides a look at what being a news reporter is like.

Being a news reporter is more than just putting on a suit and tie and jumping in front of a camera.

Step one is to find your stories. That usually entails spending a couple hours every day online checking websites and social media sites.

Step two? Go out get your stories. Talk with people, get the who/what/when/where/why, and how, shoot video to highlight the subject or action.

The reporter often has to do everything on his or own - that includes getting all their own video and interviews.

Step three is editing and writing scripts, and also editing all of the video into a cohesive story. You also have to write up a version of your story for the station's website.

So, that's news reporting in a nutshell.

But that's not some reporters do. Some also produce and anchor a newscast. Simply put, that means they have to decide what stories to show on TV. Then, they have to go into the studio and present all those stories during newscasts.

A lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
