Murlyn Burkstrand was born to John Tillman and Caroline Harriet (Meyer) Burkstrand on February 24, 1937. He passed away on January 7, 2021.
Murlyn was born in Hampden, ND, the third of nine children. After graduation, he joined the Marine Corp, and became a golden glove boxer. He met and married Mavis Martinson Peterson in 1959. She had two children from a previous marriage. Five more followed. He did roofing, painting, and furnace work throughout his life. He worked at Croxford for about 20 years. He was a “jack of all trades.” He loved fishing, horse races traveling, and family outings. After Mavis passed away, he lost two more loves, Gloria Mangold and Mitzi Jaques. He found love with Donna Garfield who was by his side until the end.
Murlyn was a social butterfly. He brought people together and always tried to look out for everybody. He always wanted reunions, so nobody was alone and everybody had food. He considered everybody to be family. He especially loved kids and they loved him. He is greatly missed. We will have a gathering at a later date.
